Being a priest is not just a ceremonial role where they get up in pretty dress once a week and make judgy sermons to bored congregants. They have oversight over administrative work, as well, regarding parish business like organizing volunteers, outreach community efforts and of course charity drives. I don’t know that much myself about what the demands are of an average priest, but I do know it requires quite a bit of admin.
My FIL in a retired Anglican priest, and he said there was always a terrible amount of paperwork & bureaucracy in parish work, which he hated. He became a hospital chaplain later in life so that he could bypass all that and care for people directly.
Hope that helps,
