Example: If f(x)=10-2x and g(x)=6x-5, then (f+g)(x) = ? x+ ?

Simply put, you put the first one + the second one. Same for substraction.

(f+g)(x) is equal to f(x) + g(x}

With your example, it would then become:

(-2x+10) + (6x-5)

Parentheses are useless here, so by dropping them, you end with 4x+5.

Subtraction is exactly the same as an addition by a negative value, so, the operation is the same, but you swap the signs of one of them.

(-2x+10) + (-6x+5)

Again, parentheses are useless so by dropping them, you end with -8x+15.
