Boomerangs: how do they work

How do they work? How do they mostly return to the throwing point? There are so many shapes and sizes.
I always found it interesting. Enlighten me with your boomerang knowledge

You know how a wing works right?  It has a specific shape that causes lift and it goes up.  A boomerang is nothing more than a wing on its side.  It’s shape causes lift but since it’s on it’s side the lift makes it fly in a circle.
