Caffeine blocks the receptors in our brain from recognizing that we are tired called adenosine receptors. In that sense, we feel like we have more energy, but we really don’t because energy is literally calories and since caffeine is essentially calorie-less it doesn’t provide the body energy. However, it is worth noting, habitual caffeine consumption will cause the brain to adapt and allow for more binding sites for these adenosine receptors. This is why people who don’t have caffeine often fell a bigger effect and those who do almost need it to function normally and if they don’t have their normal amount of caffeine causes them to go through symptoms such as headaches, chronic sleepiness, fatigue, brain fog, etc..
