Sleeping with your eyes open is definitely possible, and its called [nocturnal lagophthalmos](https://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/sleep-eyes-open#:~:text=You%20might%20be%20surprised%20to,you%20sleep%2C%20but%20not%20completely.)

Most people don’t even realize they do it, since it’s just like sleeping with your eyes closed, except for the fact your eyes are open.

So, there are no long-term or “worth it” benefits to sleeping with your eyes open. It can also cause dry eyes, restlessness, blurry vision, red eyes, light sensitivity, and the feeling of something being stuck in your eye.

My grandfather did.

My dad said it was because he was afraid the husband of whatever girlfriend he was with at the time would come, so he needed to always be ready to run.

As far as I know, he did it pretty much his entire life with no issues as a result.

I do it all the time. I can’t see anything, of course – I’m asleep, unconscious. It’s not stranger than sleeping with your mouth open. Makes my eyes a bit dry, that’s all.
