Can someone explain to me the difference between significant effect and significant interaction in stats?

Im confused over what it means to have a significant effect vs a significant interaction and how to discuss this further within the results. I am using Mixed ANOVA if that information helps

An effect will be with one variable, e.g. a significant effect of sex could mean that boys are different than girls in a particular measure. An interaction effect is two variables combining, e.g. a significant interaction of sex*age could mean that older men are different than younger women in a particular measure. This can exist without significant effect (no difference between male vs female, young vs old) or along with them.
