could an aquifer be recharged by drilling a well at the bottom of a river?

Could you build a reservoir to hold floodwater and place a well in the bottom to allow it to recharge the local aquifer for instance?

An aquifer isn’t a giant underground lake or flooded cavern. It’s more like a saturated rock sponge, or like a pocket of wet sand. Drilling a hole won’t really fill it any faster because the water would still have to slowly seep through the rest of the aquifer.
