: Could someone explain what coherence means, when talking about one of the 4 characteristics of a laser? I understand intensity, directional and monochromic but I dont get coherence?

Think of light as a set of waves. Coherence is when all the peaks of those waves line up together so all those peaks hit a target at the same time.
