Like how do we know about certain historical events in the past? How do we know about everything in history and how can we be sure all of that actually happened? Like how can we be sure the Roman Empire actually existed and how big it was,etc.How do we know about tragedies and events that happened in the ancient era? Who tf understands ancient Egyptian? And did someone just discover Ancient Greek ruins and be like “Yo Ancient Greece existed I have to tell this to my people” and did people during the Medieval times know history and about Ancient Greeks and Romans and Egyptians??

The Catholic Church kept a lot of surviving records from Ancient Rome, and most if not all of the clergy could read and speak Latin. I believe a decent amount also could read and speak Greek as well, but there’s a direct line between the Romans and Middle Ages through the Catholic Church.
