A and AAAA is a translation from a name to an IPv4 and IPv6 numerical address respectively and are the principal types of records. MX contains the domain name of an e-mail server, which may be different than the server responsible for handling the web. This allows http://example.com and mailto:[email protected] to reach different servers without using a longer address like [email protected]. CNAME is like a redirect of an alternate domain name. It can be used to host multiple web services on one physical server. In the case of MX and CNAME, they contain a textual domain name, and the client must still look up the A or AAAA record of that.
I don’t know about TXT and DKIM. It’s recent security stuff related to anti-spam on e-mail.
