Do bones become stronger after being fractured and fixed?

It depends. If they are tiny micro fractures inflicted constantly, the bone mass increases on the healed places, making the bones denser and stronger. Think of it as taking a plastic tube, making small scratches and then filling them up with crazy glue. Since the main structure is still whole, it just adds an extra, hard protective layer.

However large fractures don’t always reach full original strength, especially if they are complex fractures on multiple angles. Or if the bones set slightly wrong. Especially if there are extra issues such as muscle problems from the break.

I’ve often wondered this. Like when a MMA fighter has a break from a leg kick, does it ever really heal back to full strength?
