Do mobile network cells send data via phisical wire or via wireless to other cells?

Cell sites send and receive data to and from our phones. It is then converted from an electrical signal into light which is transmitted via fiber optic cables. Often times, several cell sites will be arranged into a “ring” which provides redundancy should one site experience a site interruption.
