Does the absorption of fructose in a lot of foods, including regular cane sugar and almost all syrups, lead directly to those calories being stored in adipose tissue, i.e. fat.
Pretty much any sugar can do that. As can any food in excess. Insulin is a fat storing hormone and spikes more with carb intake. Fructose can lead to fatty liver as well. But a lot depends on the overall diet, activity, etc.
