It does not actually work as a whitener. The main thing in toothpaste that whitens are abrasives that scratch away stains a little more aggressively than regular toothpaste. Over time, these same abrasives can also scratch or contribute to further damage to surfaces of the tooth, making them unevenly textured and therefore actually more prone to collecting more stain. Also most people dont brush for the full 2 minutes, which is not long enough for any type of whitening to occur.
