50-300mm is the focal length of the lens, the smaller the number the wider the field of view. AF is autofocus, MF is manual focus, IS or VR is image stabilization (vibration reduction for Nikon).

50mm to 300mm is the focal length. The lower the number, the more you’ll be able to see in your shot.
AF stands for Auto Focus. Some lenses (but not all) will have auto focus. The alternative is manual focus where you need to focus it yourself.
