During urine test, why we should start collecting sample mid-peeing until finish and not from the start?

Just had our employees’ annual medical checkup and the Doctor strictly gave that instruction to us. What difference does it make to the result if you start collecting the urine immediately in the cup from the start of peeing?

The urine at the start could be third party urine that was injected into the urethra…it sound gross but it has happened.

Cleaner catch. You can have all sorts of bodily fluids and detritus (bits of lint, toilet paper, bacteria, etc) around your urethra that gets caught up and whisked away in your urine stream when you begin peeing (same reason that it’s recommend to go pee after sex – helps keep UTIs away by flushing out the urethra). So collecting pee mid-stream means it’s less likely there will be extra detritus getting into the sample and potentially contaminating it.

Because the beginning of your urine stream is contaminated with anything that got into your urethra or on your genitals.
