So, in order to get energy from our calories in our bodies, we need to burn them. We split them up with enzymes and ionise electrolytes in order to transmit energy between our cells. This energy is creating electromagnetism as in electromagnetic coils, just on a whole lot smaller scale.

We can measure this current and the electromagnetic field it creates by using various instruments in order to see if and how the brain is using the energy it got from burning calories.
