For example when somebody says they have a 15 plate Mercedes, what does the plate mean? Is it the year of release or a batch or is it to do with something else. Cheers

A 15 plate is March 2015 to September 2015. A 16 plate would be March 2016 to September 2016. The period October 2015 to February 2016 would be a 65 plate. The dates are all inclusive.
