Eli5: a home AC unit. The differences between “cool”, “auto”, “dry”. What is actually happening in these settings and which should I use?

It’s currently 38 degrees Celsius outside.

My ac remote also has things like “I Feel”, “Health”, “Turbo”.

What do they all mean?

“Cool” – I want my home to cool down to this temperature as quickly as possible. If it is already that cold or colder, don’t do anything.

“Heat” – I want my home to heat up to this temperature. If it is already that warm or warmer, don’t do anything.

“Dry (Dehumidify)” – I want my home to cool down to this temperature, but I also want to get rid of moisture in the air, so run longer at a lower power setting (if possible) to extract as much water as possible. I understand it may take longer to get the home cooled.

“Auto” – 2 possibilities- (1) Fan control, run the fan moving air in the house only when trying to heat or cool the home. In this case, the opposite would be “On”, and the fan runs continuously, circulating air even when the temperature is at the set point…. (2) I am setting a high and low temperature. Use heating or cooling as necessary to keep the air in my home between these two temperatures.

“Health(?)” – Not sure, but educated guess is that it will run the system fan periodically, even if no heating or cooling is being done (20 min per hour, etc.), to filter the air in your home.
