Like are they friendly because of the way they grow up in the wild? Maybe a DNA thing??

Well, they’re a naturally social animal. They live in family groups. They don’t have a whole lot of predation to worry about – the occasional polar bear or orca or Inuit. They don’t really hunt too much, mostly shellfish and some bony fish. So they just don’t have a whole lot to fear and they don’t really need to be fearsome. They benefit from a complex social system with each other. This translates to captivity, where they really shine when working with their keepers and tend to really enjoy the attention from guests.
