Eli5: A lot of restaurants are closed on Mondays, which makes sense to me since they’ve been open all weekend. Why do a lot of Asian restaurants close on Tuesday instead?
Monday roughest day of the work week, let’s order x. Tuesday not as much. The following days are where maybe you order as a pick me up.

Not a restaurant but a retail service business. From years of data, Tuesday is always our slowest day. In our industry the weekend rolls over to Monday if they don’t come in the weekend.

Because lots of places are closed Monday.
They stay open when everyone else is closed so that they can scoop up the people looking for food on Mondays.
And close on the slowest day of the week.
It’s just a business decision.

Because all the other restaurants are closed on Mondays! Same reason they are open on Christian/Government holidays. Besides potentially not celebrating, they are seizing the opportunity for filling a business need.

Asian restaurants close on Tuesdays because Asia is a day ahead of us as a consequence of the International Date Line. Monday here is Tuesday there.
P.S. I am a genius.

It’s an informal arrangement among restaurant owners. American closed on Monday, Asian on Tuesday, Indian on Wednesday, and Italian has Thursday (except for the South where it’s typically Middle Eastern).

Different cultures have different days of rest. Sunday for Westerners because of the church’s influence, Jewish is Saturday for the same reason. Guess Tuesday is Asian Sabbath??
