Eli5 Alcohol double vision vs Glasses

I’m a fairly new glass wearer . I’ve always had great vision until I had chemo, which part of it f-ed my vision ( I was 20/15). Anyway, I’ve noticed whenever I am inebriated ( with alcohol) I don’t have double vision. whenever I put my glasses on (R and L – 75 CYL R 0.25).I see perfectly. Even when im tipsy. Now… why??? ( PS: Before any question, I have NEVER driven while I’m drunk, and yes I know that the glasses give me a “sober” sensation, but I know it’s a illusion”).

So you did have double vision when drunk before?
Likely alcohol impaired the ability for your eyes to self focus. Chemo probably permanently ruined this for you. Your glasses provide the focus, your focus doesn’t get worse when drunk now.

Do you also have a prism in your prescription?

Double vision is from the lack of coordination between the eye muscles. When you are wearing your glasses your eyes don’t have to work so hard to remain focused, so a reduced muscular coordination is still good enough.
