I found it weird until I was at the Dr and they said that certain races are subject to certain things more often. Like Ashkenazi Jews, my friend has so many health issues and they attribute it to her genes of her people in general. Not just family. I guess it’s to grasp as much info to prevent needing to ask a question later? Sorry best I could think of.
For large private companies, they want to track all your data to make things tailored as close to you as possible.
If they notice that you are black and black people buy a specific item (say chinos instead of jeans) more than other ethnicities, they can tailor ads to you closer to what their data suggests in the hope that you buy more stuff.
The models are a lot more complex than just ethnicity (they’ll look at literally everything: your age, time of day, type of device), but this is a simplified version of what happens.
thats how they gather demographic data. you know when they say “this profession is underrepresented by X race” they get that from the form data asking people to pick a race.
There are also other reasons depending on form, certain races have certain genetic health problems, but mostly its just to gather data.
Because of USA racism.
The scientific community is clear that there are no races, it’s an American thing, though you’ll see lots of supposed explanations, all bogus.
There cannot be health reasons, because black, for instance, is not a race. Two random black people may be genetically closer to a Scandinavian than to each other.
