Eli5: Can someone explain to me why after using mouthwash everything tastes sweet even hours after using it?

You mean your *mouth* tastes sweet. Anything you put *in* your mouth will taste bitter by comparison. It’s just that mouthwash is overwhelmingly sweet. If that lasts a long time it’s due to artificial sweeteners like sucralose or aspartame (not sure which are common in mouthwash) that coat the mouth.
