I have a cavity. Why does it hurt when i eat sugary foods, like a cake, but not when i drink sugary drinks like koolaid?

In a cavity, the lost tooth isn’t what hurting. It’s the nerve deep inside the tooth that’s unhappy. Bacteria eats the sugar and poops an acid, which collects in tiny cracks that get bigger over time opening the nerve and dental pulp up to more of that bacteria. Eventually this can lead to an infection, and the bacteria has to have a place to go, so it’ll create these abscesses on the outside of the tooth root, where the jaw starts to rot away to make room for this bacterial mass. Very unpleasant, can be life threatening in certain circumstances.

Not brushing and flossing is specifically asking for expensive pain.
