ELI5- chemically speaking, why is it so difficult to recreate life in a lab?

The truth is we can not create life because we haven’t been able to find out how it ever happened in the first place. We have plenty of basic theories as to what happened, but we have no idea how any of them could have worked. It’s not that we just can’t do it, we’ve never even come CLOSE to figuring out how to do it. Just like there is no real explanation for where the universe came from. You can not create something from nothing, so by definition the universe had to ALWAYS exist for it to have ever existed. It’s a paradox.
