eli5 Do Invasive Species Get Hurt When They Enter A New Ecosystem?

My son (12) asked me this the other day and I couldn’t find any quick information on Google. Still unsure, and if not, what is the explanation?

To be an invasive species is to be very well-suited to the environment you’re arriving in.

If the environment you’re arriving in is bad for you, you won’t be an invasive species because you won’t be able to compete with the natives.

It’s very common for species to be brought over from other countries and just *fail* in their new environment, but no-one pays attention to those aside from zookeepers, because they have no real environmental impact.
