Basically what the title says. I’m watching Tarzan in Spanish and realized that Phil Collins is actually singing the songs in Spanish. Not only that, but he sings the songs in French, Latin american spanish, and like 20 other languages. His pronunciation, to my almost bilingual ear, is pretty great. How the hell does this work? Do they have to hire people to do accurate translations? Then Phil Collins sings them? But he has to have a language coach of some sort, right?

Phil Collins recording the soundtrack in different languages is actually unusual. It was something that Phil Collins himself wanted to do.
Typically they don’t translate soundtracks unless they’re integral to the plot, like with musicals. For example, Disney will often hire localized music stars to re-record songs in other languages for foreign markets.
The Phil Collins example is a rarity, I’m sure. Here’s one video (of many) that shows a bunch of Disney Princess songs sung in many different languages. Each language has its own singer.

Singing uses different nodes of the brain than talking. Many people can sing in foreign language without understanding the words. The Beatles were known to sing without accents that they spoke with. My german loved to sing and my american dad would teach her the words, not exactly correctly so she would belt out You there with the scars on your thighs….
Tho it’s not singing there one other exemple of a voice actor doing every localization: Vin Diesel as Groot.
