It helps heal though, doesn’t it? I feel I read that somewhere.

I cut my foot one on a rock in the ocean and got an infection from a tropical sea based bacteria and spent like 4 days in like 37•c temp feeling like I was in an ice bath.

Sort of makes sense that salt water bacteria could infect us since the water in our blood is saline anyway. If you had an IV of fresh water you’d be in trouble

Something like 70% of the total biomass in the ocean is made up of single-cell organisms like bacteria, and viruses [kill about 20% of the total bacterial biomass in the ocean](https://www.nature.com/articles/nrmicro1750) every single day.

Salt only works against bacteria and virusses which are not used to endure higher concentrations. If you live in the sea, you are adapted to the concentrations of salt. They are your norm, what you need to properly function. And less salt may be harmful to you.

Many salt and freshwater species cannot live in the other habitat. This includes bacteria and fungi and such.

All life in the sea evolved to tolerate the saltwater, and that includes the fish, microorganisms, and infectious agents. It may be that saltwater will kill many terrestrial pathogens, but the ones in the sea evolved to thrive in the saltwater.
