Why are boats allowed to exhaust into the water, even if that water is a drinking supply? Isn’t exhaust poison? Looking at you, Colorado River!

they aren’t pulling the water and sending it to you tap. It goes through a treatment process on your cities POTW
What i find more odd is they will allow boats with 2 stroke motors in there to spew oil but wo t allow to to touch the water.

“Exhaust water” from boats is mostly clean, but slightly warm, water from the same body that’s been used to cool the engine. It gets sucked in, circulated around the hot parts of the engine and then ejected back out.
