Why are boats allowed to exhaust into the water, even if that water is a drinking supply? Isn’t exhaust poison? Looking at you, Colorado River!

“Exhaust water” from boats is mostly clean, but slightly warm, water from the same body that’s been used to cool the engine. It gets sucked in, circulated around the hot parts of the engine and then ejected back out.
