Why can’t we do dry cleaning at home? I know it’s not dry and it uses special chemicals to wash the clothes super well but why can’t we do this with our own washing machines or get separate machines in our homes to dry clean?

You can’t dry clean in a washer but they do make products to allow you to dry clean at home in a dryer though I don’t know how well they work.

It’s like washing your hand with acetone. Without the proper equipment you’ll flood your house with fumes and can potentially create a fire hazard depending on the solvent; most dry cleaning solvent are petroleum based. Afterwards how are you going to dispose of said solvent. Especially if you expect to be using enough to fill a washing machine. You cannot dump that stuff down the drain.

The chemicals involved are fairly poisonous. You need special, expensive equipment to handle them safely. No one needs enough dry cleaning done to make it worth having their own dry cleaning equipment.

Dry cleaners usually end up being toxic waste sites needing extensive cleaning and mitigation. You don’t want to turn your home into a superfund site

You can dry clean at home if you want. All you need is $150k + for the equipment, hazard chemical handling license and 3 phase power. Easy
