The theory is that there are three levels at which conversations take place Parent, Adult and Child. The idea is that some conversations take place parent to child with a lecturing approach from the parent which then provokes a childlike response from the other, which isn’t constructive, the ideal is to move the conversation to an adult adult conversation where you can actually sort things out.
