Brains have a lot of information to process all at once. They receive signals from all the various nerves in the body and put it together to understand what is going on around them. It’s so much information that the brain doesn’t have capacity for all of it, so it ignores the pieces that stay the same. The space your nose takes up in your field of view never changes, so why include it in the image? The smell of the inside of your nose is always there, so why have it distract from other smells, ignore that too. It’s the same way you don’t always notice you have pants on, or forget that ticking clock that other times you can’t seem to not hear; your brain can only focus on so much at once.
