Faster metabolism compared to weight can increase processing speed and reaction time. Smaller animals often have much faster metabolism compared to their size than we do.
The same is sort of true with people. Faster metabolism can improve processing speed which is why it seems like some athletes react faster to things than we would.
For some animals it is much much faster. Like humming birds. They have to eat almost their weight in food per day to keep up with their metabolism and they react much faster than us who probably only eat 1/70th of our weight in food.
With people the older you get the lower your metabolism and the lower your reaction time and processing speed. Men tend to have faster metabolism per weight than women, and thus men tend to have faster reaction time than women: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0026141#:~:text=The%20mean%20fastest%20reaction%20time,ms%20and%20121%20ms%2C%20respectively.
edit: I guess I didn’t make the connection. Those who process information faster see the world slower. It’s like if you record 120 frames per second but play it at 20 frames per second you would be seeing 1 second spread over 5 seconds. Reaction time is just a gauge on how fast your subconscious and conscious is processing the information.
