eli5 How can obesity allow consumption of large portions of food over time? Doesn’t the amount of fat compact the organs so there’s less space?

GI tract should become more compact as fat increases. So not enough space for large portions to be continually eaten. Right?

Much appreciated!

No, the skin gets bigger to make more room for more fat. Just look at the shadow of a fat person vs a thin person to see how this works.
