Because when we do things like that, we’re engaging the same circuits that process REAL sound. This effect can be slight or non-existent in some, yet very vivid in others.

The sound itself is never made but the 1s and 0s of neurons firing or not firing is, we experience this firing in a way noone else can. This experience is known as “qualia” and is impossible to share with others or measure without arbitrary words.

This, also but how can I imagine entire songs too? Sometimes when I forget my airpods I just make the song in my head and its just as accurate

There was this character in a comic called Sam and Fuzzy.

It was a grumpy crab and I realized I always read his dialogue in a different voice than the rest. I couldn’t figure out what the voice was, the dialogue was not written to invoke any accent or anything. One day it hit me, I was reading it in Futurama’s Richard Nixon’s voice.

I do it unintentionaly whenever i know the sound of the person’s voice of the text i read i read it in my gead as if they speak it.
