Eli5 How come some flowers look like they have glitter on them?

Question

I have a few African Violets and I love how the flower pedals in the light look like they have tiny glitter dust sprinkled on them but how or what makes this possible?

I looked at a petal under a microscope and it looked like colored beads, so I would think it is the shape of surface refracting the light.
