I find it infuriating that by accepting the update i am really having to look into what the hell is going up…

they are using pre-existing software that has been modified and changed with each and each updates and every new generation of phone when your software capabilities exceed the phone capabilities it’s time to come out with a new phone that has new features it is possible to make a phone better through software but you cannot completely remake the phone so at some point you have to upgrade the actual phone you’re selling to keep up. All of the android system is running on the same updates therefore in order to have a profitable business they have to keep innovating and moving towards the next best phone and the opportunity cost of doing this is by causing issues with older phones with the new updates but most of the time it’s just glitches they are mostly compatible and really it’s not like they care this makes you more likely to upgrade your phone

One aspect is, consumer products in certain price ranges have to be maintained by the manufacturer for a certain amount of time. I haven’t dealt with this in a bunch of years so don’t know if it’s the still the same 7 years that, for instance, I got a tv repaired twice because the manufacturer still made the same spare part. (That one actually went about 9 years, parts still avail, because it was an excellent tv and people kept them.)
