ELI5- How did it possibly come to be that over 80% of the population of countries like Qatar and United Arab Emirates are expats from other countries? Who filled the population of Qatar and UAE before the expats came?

The population was just lower. Like if there was 20 people there originally they were 100 percent of the population then 80 new people show up now the original 20 are only 20 percent
