Eli5: How do alligators achieve their incredible bite force when the load arms are much longer than the force arms?

It’s a third class lever meant for speed if i understand it correctly? Or does the psi force measured come from the speed? If so then why isn’t it easy to pry their jaws open when applying resistance at the very end of their jaws?

While being a third class level means you need more force input to do the same output, you *can* keep ramping up how much force you put in. So while they don’t get any advantage from the way their jaws lever, the sheer power of the muscle makes up for it.
