Eli5: How do bra pads do somersaults in the dryer?

I know your supposed to air dry bras, but I’m curious as to why when bras are put in the dryer, the bra pads are able to come out, flip, and change sides. I struggle sometime with putting the bra pads in, how do they just roam free in the dryer?

They’re being tumbled over and over amongst heavy clothes. Imagine loosely rolling the bra in your hands for an hour; those pads are going to move around.

Dryer tumbles them a lot, so things come out or get wrapped around quite a bit. I do not see how pads could get inside back inside the bra. Either somebody is messing with your laundry, or heat of the dryer changes the way the pad feels, so you think it is a different one.

Items tend to gravitate to whatever form has the lowest energy, like after hard day at work you could sit in a hard chair or sit in a comfy recliner, youd rather sit in a recliner.

Clothes arent just flat, they are forced to have curves during the manufacturing process and that requires bending them with folds and seams that are not naturally occurring.

Clothes want to return to their lowest energy state, which is often inside out, the way they are initially manufactured.

The padding, once the dryer starts and begins to warm things up, it expands very slightly. The foam and fabric create a sort of friction when bounced around. The foam particles then get
just a bit sticky. That causes them to catch on the fabric, thus altering their position. When the dryer cools to air it secures the new pad position. Thus causing many women to dig their fingers into the access slot, trying to catch that damn foam pad. We then proceed to either cry, get angry at the bra and or just rip that effing foam pad out.
You nearly throw it away. But then realize you might need it afterall and you cram it into your purse.
I battled this today.
As a result I have about a dozen bra pads falling out of my dresser drawer.

Protip: fold them in half and insert them back in while unfolding with your fingers. I go top point in first and make sure the front/back of them pop in the right direction.

I’ve run into this with bathing suits and these new halter style ones I got this year. Good luck!
