eli5 How do bull riders in the rodeo protect their ‘packages’?

I’m a woman who is just curious about how the cowboys protect their man parts from getting banged up when riding bulls? It’s my impression that these parts are extremely sensitive to pain and I can’t figure out how these guys can walk afterwards?
