ELi5: How do compression socks help keep your feet from hurting when you’re standing for a long period of time?

I stand all day at work and recently got new compression socks- they seem to me making a difference and I’m not as sore at the end of the day.

They apply pressure, which helps blood flow. When you stand still for long periods your legs have trouble circulating blood properly because we are basically designed to be walking /moving around or asleep. It works under the same principle as the massage cuffs they put on your legs after surgery when you can’t get up. It applies pressure forcing your blood to flow through the lines
