Eli5: How do flies manage to crash into human beings if they can see things at a «slower» pace than us?

You ever bump into a table? Because I’m pretty sure you see things at a slower pace than a table.

Animals are clumsy sometimes. Things bump into each other.

My cat has the ability to react faster than a snake can bite but she’s still dumb and slams head first into the wall a lot.

Hehe, good question…

Flies do see the world in slow motion which helps them react to movement quickly, but they aren’t great at judging distances.

Also, they’re attracted to heat, moisture, and smells from humans. So, they might fly towards us on purpose, but sometimes misjudge and crash into us. Or they could be trying to land on us for those attractive things, and we perceive it as a crash.
