eli5 How do market makers influence stock prices?

In my experience they seem to have algos spying on my trades. I have lost every trade ive made this year so far with some positions going the exact opposite of the direction i need for my play to work out the moment i open them
They influence it by making the stock more liquid, therefore helping investors to find the true value
