ELI5/How do our bodies learn muscular and observationally related skills, in particular drawing?

Trial and error. Babies start out as incredibly uncoordinated blobs that just kinda flail around.

Then as you age and move and practice doing different things, your central nervous system starts to figure out the proper signals and pathways and muscles to activate to accomplish what the mind wants to be done.

Practice with intention.

Practice by itself will get you so far, Practice with intention will get you further.

By intention I mean : pick a goal and constantly Practice towards that goal.

I do a lot of photo editing and result.pick a new thing to get good at and allocate a specific amount of time each week to working on that thing until I have hit the target I set and then have revision goals on a regular basis (typically yearly) as new techniques are developed regularly.

The same principle can be applied to almost anything, cooking, driving, yoga, chess, etc.
