Eli5: How do ozone machines work and why have I heard conflicting information about dangers of using one in a car for example?

Ozone is not very stable and doesn’t last too long without turning back to regular air stuff. Run the generator at night and open your windows for a bit afterwards. Don’t leave pets or anything delicate that has rubber or polymers that break down easily with ozone or UV light.
They pump ozone into a closed space, ozone is a gas that is harmfull to most organic life, and it can be used to kill bacteria, but its also dangerous to most animals, including humans, and plants. So they can be dangerous if they are not used properly. If there is still a lot of ozone gas in the car for example when you get back in that can lead to some serious health issues.
