Eli5: How do planes fly with one engine?

If you get pushed from one side only, doesnt that mean the plane can only go to the opposite lane? Or cicrling

One thing to keep in mind is that for most twin engine (or more) aircraft, you need all your engines to take off, but not all of them to cruise or land.
