Eli5 : How do VMAT2 inhibitors work?

Do they completely block dopamine production in the brain, or do they reduce dopamine generally but not completely block it?

They block a method certain neurons use to fill up the little sacks of dopamine that would otherwise be ready to release. They don’t directly affect dopamine production.
